ROTORUA COUNCIL’S DEBT

Replying to a LGOIMA request by RDRR Chairman Darrell Klante, Deputy CEO Oonagh Watkins responded, as at 20 June 2023:

I refer to your LGOIMA request of 21 May 2023 regarding Council debt, and provide the following information as per your email:

1. How much debt the Rotorua Lakes Council is currently in, in actual dollars?

$350.6m

2. What will the foreshadowed loans for 2023/24 total, in actual dollars, be?

$414.4m

3. What will they be required for?

Loans are proposed to be drawn down for specific capital projects including the upgrade of Rotorua’s Wastewater Treatment Plant, the Tarawera Wastewater Scheme and the upgrade of Rotorua’s Aquatic Centre.

4. What are the annual or monthly interest payments on current debt, in actual dollars?

The annual budget for interest expense in 2022/23 is $9.8m.

5. How many different loans does the Rotorua Lakes Council have?
