How on earth can the design for the Q E Health and Spa featured in the Daily Post 9th Oct, have been created, much less be lauded? How could a design brief include something that could be construed to look as intimidating and close to a prison as possible, just without the barbed wire! As a guest or client, you’d be forgiven for thinking that you were being delivered to the wrong address.
A few years ago our mayor conjured up a good photo opportunity by promoting Rotorua as a “wood first” town but where have we seen any evidence of that? This edifice is not wood, the highly contentious Hemo is not wood …. where is the wood? It’s in the forest or, unprocessed, on trucks passing through Rotorua as quickly as possible en route to the Port of Tauranga and out of sight.
