Helpful suggestions for preparing submissions:

  • A submission is best if you use your own words and make it come from the heart. It does not need to be long;
  •  Detail any experiences or incidents you have had or witnessed;
  • Express how you feel and how emergency housing is affecting you and our city;
  • Safety, crime, theft, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, domestic violence, anti-social behaviour, disgusting language, shopping trollies, rubbish, intimidating behaviour, etc.;
  • The cumulative effect of so many emergency housing motels on Rotorua’s reputation;
  • Another 5 years and no guarantee extensions will not be requested;
  • What is the plan to reduce the numbers needing emergency housing motels in Rotorua?
  • According to MSD report nearly a third of emergency housing people are not from Rotorua;
  • According to RLC report 5 to 10 families are coming to Rotorua each week with family harm safety plans and they have no association to Rotorua;
  • The cumulative effect on police, health services, hospital, mental health workers, social service agencies, doctors, schools, etc.
  • No guarantee new Kainga Ora homes will go to people in emergency housing or even people currently living in Rotorua.
  • You could question the suitability of living in a motel for months, even years especially for families with children and whanau. And the effect this might have on their mental health. And how it may affect those young impressionable minds.

There will be lots of other issues, so please submit.

The Commissioners do not live in Rotorua so we need to make them understand what we are experiencing.
